About the Producer

Tenuta di Tavignano has been in the same family since 1973, when Stefano Aymerich di Laconi and his wife Beatrice Lucangeli, who came from a Marche family with a long history in wine, took over the estate. The property sits on a hilltop in Cingoli, in the Marche's Macerata hills, positioned between the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea, a location the estate credits with moderating temperatures and shaping the character of its fruit. The vineyards, olive groves, and cellar were converted to organic farming starting in 2014 and earned full certification in 2018. Today the estate is led by Ondine de la Feld, Stefano's niece, who joined the company in 2014 and became CEO in 2021, continuing the family's focus on native Marche varieties like Verdicchio, Montepulciano, and Sangiovese.

Why I Chose this Wine

Marche is one of Italy's most overlooked wine regions, mostly because it sits in Tuscany's shadow, but this is exactly the kind of bottle that makes the case for paying attention.

Beatrice and Stefano built this estate more than fifty years ago on native varieties grown close enough to the Adriatic that the sea shapes both the climate and the flavor in the glass. I keep coming back to how a wine can taste this savory and briny from a coastline you'd never guess just by looking at the label, and that's the kind of find I love putting in people's hands.
