Every bottle I've chosen has a story to tell. My job is to make sure you get to hear that story (from a fellow human). That's why you'll see my video-journals, tasting notes, and so on. The people who make these wines coaxed something extraordinary out of the earth with care and intention. I find those people, taste their wines, and bring their stories to you.

Hi, nice to meet you

I'm Ashwin —

 

An author, sommelier, and wine educator who has spent the better part of a decade traveling the world in pursuit of flavor. 

 

I've studied the ancient origins of wine and visited the archaeological site of wine's discovery in Georgia (the country). I've rolled whiskey casks around in the freezing rain on Islay in Scotland. I've explored volcanic winemaking with my bare hands in Somlò, Santorini, Sicily, and I've felt on multiple continents the immense fatigue and satisfaction of harvesting grapes. All along the way, I've built relationships with winemakers whose work I deeply admire, many of whom are now my closest friends.

 

Every wine in the my Wine Club and in my Bottle Shop has been tasted and selected by me personally with great care.

 

Together, with my wife and co-founder, Savannah, we've built something we'd want for ourselves: a place to find wines that are low-intervention and high-integrity.

What we do

We built two things that work together: a curated Bottle Shop for people ready to explore, and a Wine Club for people who want the exploration to come to them. The Wine Club features exclusively the other 10,000 grapes whereas the Bottle Shop also features the Classics.

1. I taste many hundreds of bottles and select just a handful - exclusively from small independent winemakers. 

2. After selecting each bottle, I re-write my tasting notes including food & wine pairings. Then, I film a video-journal to bring you the full story.

3. We stick a QR code on every bottle so that my tasting notes, food pairings, and video-journals are always within hands' reach.

Our Winemakers: Artists. Farmers. Friends.

We don't carry wines from large corporations that make wines by the millions or worse tens of millions. We carry wines solely from people: small producers, multigenerational family farms, and independent winemakers who are doing things their own way. Winemaking without shortcuts is hard. You labor under the scorching sun and in the freezing cold. We want to support the brave and beautiful makers that make wine the honest way.

 

And, what's more, we introduce you to those winemakers. Just scan the QR code on the bottle to hear the winemaker's story and read my handwritten tasting notes - that way you know exactly what you are opening and why it's special.

wine can be simple

At its core, wine needs only one ingredient: grapes. When winemakers honor that, something remarkable happens. The wine becomes cleaner, more alive, and better for you. That's why the overwhelming majority of wines we select are low-intervention, with many being organic and/or biodynamic. These are wines made by growers who, like me, believe that good wine is made in the fields, not in the cellar. 

 

We also believe that access to healthier wine should not be a luxury reserved for people in major cities with specialty bottle shops around the corner. Wherever you are, you deserve a glass that was made with integrity. 

 

Our commitment extends to how we ship, too. We use sustainable packaging materials throughout, because if we care about what's inside the bottle, it only makes sense to care about what's around it too.
