What to Pair

Pairs beautifully with fresh, briny, and herb-forward dishes that echo the wine's coastal character:

  • Oysters on the half shell
  • Grilled fennel drizzled with lemon and olive oil
  • Maitake mushrooms, pan-seared, with white pepper

About the Producer

Škegro Family Winery is led by Bariša Skegro, who takes a modern approach to the traditional: love and care for the vineyards, hands-off winemaking, and a genuine desire to bottle the spirit of Herzegovina.

The estate's two hectares of south-facing, terraced vineyards sit in the small village of Radišići, carved into hillsides of calcareous marl, sandstone, and flint, with Mostar sitting close enough to the Croatian coast that the climate runs fully Mediterranean.

Farming is entirely organic, with natural cover crops and no herbicides or pesticides, and the wines are built on indigenous varieties that most of the wine world is only just discovering. We think that's exactly the point.

Why I Chose this Wine

This wine blew my mind. In my personal tasting notes, the first thing I wrote was "!!"  (my shorthand for a wine that is truly special and that no one should miss).

This was the first wine from Bosnia Herzegovina I included in my wine club and it was a member favorite, so I knew I also wanted to have it available in the bottle shop.

This one was harder to source than most, and it required me to take a big bet and secure quantity well before I was comfortable doing so. I'm glad I did. I hope you love it as much as I do.
