Pomalo Wine Co. is built around a word that doesn't appear in any Croatian dictionary.
"Pomalo" is rooted in the coastal and island lifestyle of Dalmatia, meaning something between "take it easy," "slow down," and "no stress". It's a philosophy that runs through every wine in the range.
The project is a collaboration between the Begović cousins, two winemakers from starkly different backgrounds: one based in the mountains of Slovenia, one on the Dalmatian coast, who discovered their shared family lineage in the village of Kozice, Croatia.
The Debit vineyards sit inland near the historic town of Šibenik, farmed organically with no irrigation, on red and brown clay topsoil over a limestone foundation. Cooler nights and constant coastal breezes preserve the acidity that makes Debit worth taking seriously, and this wine is Pomalo's argument that it always was.
