Domaine des Tourelles was founded in 1868 by French adventurer François-Eugène Brun and is one of the oldest wineries still operating in Lebanon. The Brun family ran the estate until the last descendant died in 2003, when two local families, the Issa and Issa el-Khoury families, joined forces to buy the property and continue the tradition.
Today it is run by winemaker Faouzi Issa and his siblings, who trained at Château Margaux and in the Rhône before coming home to the Bekaa. They farm 40 hectares of ancient, organically cultivated, dry-farmed vineyards using indigenous yeasts, no fining or filtering, and only minimal sulfur, old methods in a very old place, producing wines that are anything but dated.
