About the Producer

Ayunta is Filippo Mangione's small organic estate on the northern slopes of Mt. Etna, near Randazzo.

The Navigabile is sourced from Ayunta's two best vineyard sites, the Contradas Calderara and Feudo, where old vines grow in volcanic soils at around 650 meters altitude.

The wine is naturally fermented in open-top tanks using only ambient yeasts, macerated for 18 days, and then aged in large chestnut barrels for 24 to 36 months before release.

They produce just around 400 cases of this wine per year. Because of this, the terroir of each parcel stays legible in the glass because it hasn't been diluted.

Why I Chose this Wine

The Navigabile is Filippo's top Etna Rosso, sourced from his two best plots of land and aged for up to three years in chestnut before release.

He makes just 400 cases.

That's it.

It's not scarcity for scarcity's sake. It's what honest, small-plot winemaking actually produces.

I'm so grateful to be able to carry this wine in the bottle shop.
