Thibault Ducroux grew up the son of a Beaujolais grower and became passionate about winemaking while learning the trade in his father's cellar. The real turning point came when he discovered the works of Jules Chauvet, the research chemist and winemaker venerated as the father of the French natural wine movement, whose ideas about minimal intervention permanently changed how Thibault thought about wine. En Roue Libre, "freewheeling" in French, is a nod to both his hands-off philosophy and his love of cycling. The grapes are hand-harvested, whole-cluster carbonic maceration, spontaneous fermentation, aged on fine lees in concrete for 8 months, no fining, no filtration, and a tiny amount of sulfites at bottling only if necessary.
