The estate has been in the Moretti family since 1925, when Omero's grandfather Domenico bought his first olive grove in Giano dell'Umbria, just southeast of Montefalco. Omero himself fell in love with farming as a young man and brought his wife Daniela and daughters Lucia and Giusy into the fold as the estate grew.
Today it's Giusy who leads the winemaking, and she's the reason we carry this bottle. What I find genuinely compelling about this family is that they were the second winery in all of Umbria to go certified organic, way back in 1992 — this wasn't a marketing decision, it was a values decision, and you can taste the difference. The poppies on the label aren't just decorative either: wild poppies in a vineyard are a sign that the soil is chemical-free. I love that kind of quiet storytelling.
