Matic Wines comes from Matija Žerjav, known simply as Matic, who took over his family's vineyards in Štajerska, Slovenia at just 24 years old. He's the third generation to farm this land near the Austrian and Hungarian border, and he works his nine hectares organically and biodynamically, the same way his grandfather taught him.
We love that he didn't inherit a trend; he inherited a responsibility, and he's chosen to honor it rather than modernize it away.
His cellar dates back to 1852, dug into the hillside to keep the wines steady through Štajerska's harsh winters and warm summers.
