The Richard family has been growing grapes in Le Vernois in the heart of the Jura since 1919, though it took a generation or two before wine became the whole focus.
Vincent Richard is the latest chapter. He studied oenology in Beaune, worked harvests in Saint-Émilion and the Côtes de Provence, and came back to the family estate in 2009 with a clear sense of what he wanted to do. In 2018, he and his wife Emmanuelle converted to organic farming, which is no small thing in the Jura's wet climate where mildew pressure makes that kind of commitment genuinely difficult.
The Harmonie spends 24 to 36 months aging on the lees before disgorgement, and that patience is exactly what gives it the bready, creamy depth that sets it apart from most sparkling wine at this price.
