Nino Barraco is the son of farmers who sold just-fermented base wine to large Marsala houses. Nino took over his family's vineyards in 2004 and from the outset did things differently: working organically, focusing on the native grapes of western Sicily, and producing wines aimed at showing the region's real potential.
His own words sum it up: "I'm looking to bring out the connection between the vines and our place. Our strength is agriculture."
The Fior di Bianco is Nino's first attempt at a multi-variety wine, deliberately designed to be young, fresh, and accessible. It's made of four indigenous varieties from 3 hectares scattered throughout the Marsala zone, sitting over that constant layer of limestone. Fermentations are spontaneous, the wine is unfined and unfiltered, and no sulphites are added. This is Marsala as it was before anyone decided it should only mean something sweet and fortified.
