ASHWIN'S REFLECTION:
Sarakiniko is Greek for "the Saracen's place" – the Saracens being raiders of different origins than the Greeks. These are coves or beaches where the pirates-of-sorts would hide out and find shelter, or so the local legends go... The winery is located on the Cycladic island of Paros (the most famous of the Cycladic islands being Santorini).
Paros is quite a small island — to the point where you can't really get more than a half dozen miles away from the surrounding sea, and that ocean influence combined with Assyrtiko's naturally fuller body results in a beautifully well-balanced and also quite unique white wine.
