Not every wine in this box is rare for the same reason. Some of these grapes are genuinely disappearing. Some are just going by a name you've never seen on a label.

• Jgia is the real rarity here: an indigenous Kakhetian variety that nearly went extinct under Soviet-era vineyard planning, and Otia, who makes ours, is reportedly the only producer working with it today.
• Trepat is nearly as scarce. It's grown almost nowhere outside Catalonia's Conca de Barberà and neighboring Tarragona, on roughly 1,000 hectares total, and Adernats turns it into a 100% Trepat rosé cava instead of the light still rosé it's normally used for.
• Morillon isn't a rare grape at all, it's Chardonnay under its centuries-old Styrian name. Lackner-Tinnacher's version, from the Eckberg vineyard in Südsteiermark, is proof that "never heard of it" sometimes just means "never seen that name before."
• Listán Negro and Viura are both common in their home regions (Listán Negro is the most-planted red grape in the Canary Islands; Viura is nearly 70% of Rioja's white plantings), but rarely travel. Most people who know Rioja know it as red, and most people who know the Canaries don't know its wine at all.
• July Muscat, in Supernatural's Green Glow, is the real outlier: it's a variety more commonly grown as a table grape than a wine grape, which makes this one of the stranger bottles in the box by design.
