What to Pair

The tingly acidity and mineral backbone make this a natural match for spiced, citrus-forward dishes with brightness and depth.

  • Chili-rubbed shrimp with citrus
  • Yellow dal with mango pickle
  • Grilled chicken kebab skewers with sumac

About the Producer

Préselő was founded in 2013 by Zsolt Nagy, his wife Gabi, an enologist, and Árpád Zöldi-Kovács, a viticulturist, who together assembled 8 hectares of vineyards scattered across the village of Erdőbénye and released their first vintage that same year.

The name comes from an industrial relic: a centenarian double-press discovered in the original cellar of the 200-year-old house at the heart of the estate.

The Messzelátó vineyard, one of the highest plots in the wine region, is an isolated site surrounded by forest where the vines are cultivated without chemicals using natural and bio methods.

For the Furmint, the majority of the juice ferments spontaneously in stainless steel, while the remainder ferments and ages in barrel, a split that preserves freshness while adding depth. The goal across the range is clean structure, vibrant acidity, and the mineral backbone that comes from Tokaj's volcanic soils.

Why I Chose this Wine

Tokaj has historically been most recognized for its sweet white wines, and those concentrated, botrytized expressions are extraordinary.

But there's been a real shift happening in the region, where a growing number of producers using the same Furmint grapes to make dry white wines.

I find the dry style much more versatile and honestly more drinkable day to day.

What I love about this bottle in particular is that nose-to-palate contrast: the nose promises richness and then the palate delivers something taut and bright instead.

It keeps you on your toes.
