Imogen Berry grew up in Alsace and Robin Althoff grew up near Montpellier, where he was immersed in biodynamic winemaking from an early age at the Costes-Cirgues family estate. The two met while studying oenology in Montpellier and spent years working harvests around the world before settling in Aubais — Loire Valley, Argentina, Chile, California, and South Africa for Imogen; Burgundy, Roussillon, Napa, and South Africa for Robin.
They founded the domaine in 2015 and now farm 10 hectares biodynamically under Demeter certification, with vines on the yellow marls of Saint-Mamert-du-Gard and on limestone from the Valanginien in Aubais and Aujargues. The Menhir comes from old-vine Grenache planted in the 1970s on that limestone, hand-harvested, native yeast fermented, and bottled with minimal sulfites. Two people who have made wine on four continents, working old vines in the south of France the way they were always meant to be worked.
