REFLECTION:
Ramato is Italian for "copper" or "coppered" in color, and it's the name of a style of wine in Friuli where Pinot Grigio is fermented with the skins and takes on an orange-hued (i.e., copper) color. In this wine, Charlie Villard pays homage to that style of winemaking but takes it even a step further with a longer maceration. Pinot Grigio is often vinified as the most plain, inoffensive (read: boring) wine ever, but when it's treated with care and you use the whole fruit, the result is extremely dynamic.
