TASTING NOTES:
Mineral-forward: gravel, wet slate, "parking lot after the rain" aroma; steely, clean minerality. Blackberry, wild berry, forest floor, tobacco leaf, dried fig. Complexity in aromatic structure. Brightness, lively acidity with full body and gorgeous tannic structure.
FOOD PAIRING RECOMMENDATION:
- Braised octopus
- or Espresso-rubbed grilled steak
- or Pizza with red sauce and sausage
- or Charred, grilled chicken with salsa alla diavola
REFLECTIONS FROM ASHWIN:
It's a rare and welcome delight for me to taste a new grape variety for the first time. It only happens a few times a year these days, and tasting Jgia was precisely that for me. Jgia is as rare as they come. So rare that it's unknown (i.e. records aren't closely kept) how many Jgia vines there are on the planet. Some estimates show just a few thousand bottles of wine made from Jgia in the whole world. I hope you enjoy the privilege of tasting this wine as much as I did.
