TASTING NOTES:
Nose: Red + black fruits/berries: blackberry, cherry, balsamic strawberries, hints of licorice. Floral aromas as well: dried roses + dried violet; chalky; hints of fig + slightly
Palate: juicy, almost Beaujolais-like acidity + mouthfeel with lighter body and medium firm tannins with a notable persistence
FOOD PAIRING RECOMMENDATION:
Aged, saltier cheese with fig jam + almonds
BBQ ribs or chili (vegetarian or non-veg)
ASHWIN'S REFLECTION:
Oszkar is one of the pioneers and driving influences of natural wine in Serbia. If you visit his vineyards, you’ll notice immediately that unlike most winemakers around the world, Oszkar chooses to leave the vines rather wild and “unkept” as opposed to pretty trellised - his view is that in order to express the terroir, it’s better to allow the vines to do as they please as opposed to subjecting them to some form of order that may or may not be right for expression. It is a contrarian and slightly riskier approach, but it’s one that I very much admire and respect because it is hard to argue that Oszkar’s approach is not uniquely expressive of Serbian terroir + Serbian varieties.
