ASHWIN'S REFLECTION:
Riccardo Baldi of La Staffa started in the winery as a teenager and has begun to develop a (admittedly niche) reputation for his expressions of Verdicchio. While Le Marche is a generally lesser-known wine region of Italy, there are some wonderful wines if you know where to look. Riccardo takes a manual and minimal intervention approach to winemaking with organic farming, hand-harvesting/hand-sorting, spontaneous fermentation, lees aging, and so on → i.e. a very respectful and time-intensive approach to winemaking for which we, the wine drinkers, are rewarded with an expressive, textural white that shines in the glass.
