ASHWIN'S REFLECTION: Serbia has winemaking roots that extend as far back as at least the 12th century in Tri Morave according to historical record. Then, the Ottomans arrived in the 15th century and remained for nearly 350 years, bringing with them the Islamic prohibition on alcohol, which reportedly included forces tasked with finding and destroying vineyards.
What you have in this bottle is from a viticultural tradition that had to survive centuries of deliberate erasure. Aleksandar upholds Serbian winemaking traditions by cultivating indigenous varieties such as Grašac and Tamjanika and also forges forward by taking a minimal intervention approach — hand-harvested, certified organic, native yeast fermentation — all in order to more truly and deeply represent the land and the terroir.
